With Danica Patrick poised to lead the field in Sunday's Daytona 500, it's a good time to give a shout out to the woman who brought Danica from open-wheel racing to NASCAR--Kelley Earnhardt, who in late 2009 signed Danica to JR Motorsports. It's a big weekend for racing, with the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is one of the favorites to win this weekend. Dale is building his own racing empire, following the footsteps of his legendary father, but the person making the business moves for JR Motorsports is his sister, Kelley. Among her moves: Bringing Danica Patrick from open wheel racing to JR Motorsports' Nationwide team. Kelley was an accomplished driver in her own right before going to the business side. In this excerpt from "Playing Ball With the Boys," Kelley talks about her decision to leave her father's marketing company after his death, to join her brother.
